Description: The 2025 AWRA-WA State Conference brings together water professionals, policymakers, engineers, scientists, lawyers, students, and regulators to tackle one of the most critical challenges of our time: how do we manage our water resources better given the legacy of past management decisions, competing demands, and a changing climate? Through thought-provoking sessions and candid discussions, we'll explore not only the challenges we face, but the opportunities ahead.

Keynotes:

Opening Keynote

Dillon Honcoop presents, "The Missing Link: Bridging the Gap Between Water Regulations & Emerging Realities to Build Future-Ready Communities."

Dillon is Communications Director for the Washington farming advocacy nonprofit, Save Family Farming, as well as its local partner organization, Whatcom Family Farmers. In his role, Dillon shares the story of the region's farming community, through developing written content, hosting radio shows and podcasts, producing videos, supporting social media content and outreach, and working closely with local, regional and national media outlets.

Closing Keynote

Dr. Hannah Hämmerli presents, "Moving from Tension to Cooperation: Water Governance for a Sustainable Future."

Hannah is an Assistant Professor in the School of the Environment at Washington State University (WSU). She earned her BA degree at Carleton College, followed by a PhD in the Earth Sciences at James Cook University (Australia), before specializing in water governance at the University of Geneva, where she earned a MSc degree in Innovation, Human Development, and Sustainability. Her research is focused on environmental governance and policy, with a particular emphasis on water-related challenges. She explores a range of topics including national and transboundary hydropolitics, sustainable water governance, political ecology, institutional change, and the science-policy-practice interface.
