AWRA-WA Virtual Lunch Meeting--

A Web-based Real-Time 3D Modeling System for Lake Washington

Speakers: Tom Mathis, DSI, LLC

12:00 PM to 1:00 PM

VIRTUAL MEETING!!!  You will receive a link to participate via our webinar service when you register AND the day before the event.

Thank you to Green Economics for sponsoring the technology of this event!

Abstract: DSI, LLC has developed a web-based real-time 3D model of Lake Washington, using King County, NOAA, USGS, and the US Army Corps of Engineers (lakewashington.ds-intl.biz). The model simulates the lake's vertical and horizontal temperature variations, including Lake Union and the Lake Washington Ship Canal. The purpose of developing the model was to provide government organizations, private entities, and the public with an easily accessible system that they could use for various applications, including recreation, research, planning, and management. This talk will discuss the model's development, the model's performance compared to observations and potential applications. In the future, we hope to enhance the modeling system by adding capabilities to simulate changes in water quality and use weather predictions or numerical models for climate change to make forecasts of possible future conditions.

Our Speakers: Tom Mathis is a project and operations manager with DSI, LLC. His expertise are in the modeling of surface water bodies, focusing specifically on hydrodynamics, temperature, sediment transport, and water quality. Tom has worked extensively in the area of lake and reservoir management, helping clients address complex water management problems and regulatory issues.

Fees

Free for EVERYONE!!!

Thank you for continuing to support the Washington Section of AWRA during this unprecedented event.  To the best of our ability, we will continue to help you learn about water resources issues and connect with other members.  Thank you for staying home and staying safe and we look forward to seeing everyone in person when it's safe to do so!
